Service Groups

We can always use a few extra hands

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona (HSSA) welcomes community and high school groups  (ages 15 and older) to schedule service events to complete projects that will provide comfort and enrichment to the animals in our care. These events are specifically for groups interested in one-time volunteer opportunities.

Note that there is no animal handling or interaction at these events.

Service group activities are determined based on need.

On-Site Service event activities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Making no-sew cat beds

  • Making catnip toys

  • Making dog leashes

  • Painting boxes for cats to hide in

  • Decorating for an upcoming Birthday Pawty

  • Reading to our shelter pets (restrictions apply)

  • Cleaning public areas and/or picking up trash surrounding the property

  • Miscellaneous requests from other HSSA departments

Service Groups and Donation Projects

Youth groups can make items to be used at HSSA or they may hold a supply drive or fundraiser at their own pace and in their own facility. Due to age restrictions, we are unable to host youth groups under the age of 15. The Education department will provide instruction for different items to be made, fundraising ideas and wish lists. Upon completion, groups may schedule a “thank you” tour Monday – Friday from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., on a first-come, first-served basis. Please email or call 520-327-6088, ext. 125 for more information.
