Dog Days Fall Camp 2016 – Rescue Crew October 10 – 13, 2017 @ Companions for Life Center
Oct 10 @ 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Rescue-Crew-Week#1

The Dog Days in the Desert Fall Camp is designed to give children a new perspective on caring for domestic animals, animal cruelty prevention, animal welfare issues, animal behavior and personal responsibility. Participants involved in these programs will enjoy a variety of activities which stress an appreciation for non-human species, our environment and preservation of our natural world. The philosophical focus deals with how compassion and respect for all the creatures with whom we share this planet cultivates a peaceful existence and a non-violent society.

Dog Days provides children with in-depth, hands-on education about animal care and the human-animal bond. Our curriculum-based activities require a high level of participation from the enrolled children. Participants will enjoy a variety of classroom activities, creative and artistic exercises; hands-on animal care; great games, and character-building lessons.

WHAT HAPPENS? WHEN AND WHERE?

Dog Days takes place at the Humane Society’s Companions for Life Center at 3465 E. Kleindale, approximately one block from the shelter. The Center has security fences, air-cooled classroom areas, landscaped grassy yards for animal-related activities and other excellent facilities. Included in the registration cost is a Humane Society namebadge, prizes, keepsakes, educational information, a free recognition party. Sessions run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Court Mandated Animal Cruelty Education Class – Nov 12 2016 @ HSSA Companions for Life Center
Nov 12 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am

big_stolen_gavel

The Animal Cruelty Education Program is a cooperative effort between The Humane Society of Southern Arizona and member organizations with the Animal Cruelty Taskforce of Southern Arizona. The program’s purpose is to provide adults with the educational background, access to services and day-to-day skills needed to make them better pet owners.

Participants in the program have all received citations or have been adjudicated of violations relating to the care and treatment of their or other animals, or have been referred to the program by the Pima County Justice Courts, Tucson City Courts, behavioral health care providers or other agencies. The program, however is not a court of law concerned with the determination of guilt or innocence, but an opportunity to learn the needs and problems confronting the animals which share our homes and lives.

The 90-minute educational class is from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. All participants must be registered two days before their class attendance. The $75 class fee is non-refundable upon registration for the class. Upon payment and attendance of the scheduled class, participants will receive a certificate of completion to present to the prosecutor. To register or make a payment over the phone please call (520) 321-3704, ext. 142.
