Clinic Veterinary Technician

Location: Tucson, AZ
Hiring Range: $16.00 - $16.50/hour + Benefits Package
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

At the Humane Society of Southern Arizona (HSSA), we’ve been dedicated to compassionately serving pets and the people who love them for over 80 years. As the largest nonprofit animal welfare organization in Southern Arizona, we provide lifesaving services for thousands of animals in need each year. Now, we’re looking for a compassionate and skilled Veterinary Technician to join our team and make a difference in the lives of pets and their families.

 

Your Role as a Veterinary Technician:
You’ll be an essential part of our Spay/Neuter Clinic team, providing compassionate care to animals while assisting in surgeries, vaccinations, and other medical procedures. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing animals for surgery and assisting veterinarians during procedures.
  • Monitoring patients before, during, and after surgery, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Administering vaccinations, conducting laboratory work, and supporting wellness clinics.
  • Handling post-operative recovery and patient discharge, while providing clients with clear instructions for at-home care.
  • Cleaning and maintaining surgical instruments and preparing surgical packs.
  • Assisting with community vaccination and wellness clinics.
  • Maintaining meticulous medical records and ensuring a clean, sanitary, and safe working environment.
  • Engaging with clients by answering questions and providing guidance on care for their pets.
  • Collaborating with other team members to ensure the highest standard of care for all animals.

 

What We’re Looking For:
We’re seeking a caring and reliable individual who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will have a genuine love for animals and the ability to stay calm and effective, even in high-stress situations.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have excellent communication skills and enjoy working with both animals and people.
  • Ability to lift and carry animals (with assistance for animals over 40 lbs.) and perform physical tasks such as standing for extended periods, bending, and working outdoors in varying conditions.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Veterinary Technician Certification is a plus, but not required.
  • At least two years of experience as a veterinary technician or assistant preferred.
