What to do if you find a stray pet:

  1. Upload the pet’s photo and information to Petco Love Lost.
  2. Post the pet on local social media platforms, like Nextdoor and local Facebook groups. Check back to see if anybody has lost the pet you found.
  3. Hang “Found Pet” posters within a mile of where the pet was found.
  4. Walk around the area and ask neighbors, businesses, and delivery people if they recognize the pet.

If you haven’t located pet’s family after a week, you should:

  1. Repost the found report on Petco Love Lost.
  2. Keep the pet, if possible!
  3. Rehome the pet, if you’re unable to keep it.
  4. If you’re unable to keep or rehome the pet, reach out to HSSA's intake department to see if we can take the pet in. (Note: To cover the cost of animal care, we must charge a fee to take in lost pets.)
