ABOUT HSSA PET PANTRY
- When we have them, HSSA gives free dog and cat food, cat litter, and pet supplies to families who need help.
- We also give food to people who care for outdoor community cats.
- This program depends on donations. Because of that, we may not always have enough food, or we may not have the exact type of food or supplies you want.
- Families can pick up food once a month. Each household can only come one time per month, and someone from the household must be there in person. You cannot pick up food for another family.
- The Pet Pantry is meant to be short-term help. Pet owners should still be ready to feed and care for their pets, including vet visits.
- We encourage everyone to spay or neuter their pets, get them vaccinated, and use other HSSA services. While spay/neuter is not required, it is highly recommended.
- You may lose access to the Pet Pantry if you:
- Breed animals
- Act disruptive
- Use rude or threatening language
- Show violence or threats of violence
- Treat staff, volunteers, or other people in a hostile way
- Pet food and supplies should never be resold or given away.
- Pet food is only for pets—it is not safe for people to eat.
- We will ask for some basic information from you to help us keep track of our numbers for grants.
- When supplies allow, HSSA may also work with other food distribution sites to share resources.
Want to become a recipient of the Greater GOODS Program and receive pet food and supplies for your animal welfare or human services organization?
The HSSA has teamed up with Greater Good Charity's GOODS Program to become a Tucson Affiliate partner, sharing resources with animal welfare agencies all over the region. Thanks to this partnership, we are able to bring more pet food and litter to the area, allowing rescues and pantries to stretch their dollars further and impact even more pets and people. Food and supplies are donated by the truckload from gracious donors, shipped to our warehouse and later distributed to qualified Rescue Bank Recipients for a minimal handling fee.
- To participate, recipient groups can be animal welfare or human services organizations such as:
- Food banks of Pet Food Pantries
- Be a 501(c) 3 animal rescue organization (e.g., cat, dog, equine, and wildlife shelters, rescues, and sanctuaries)
- State, county or regional animal welfare facilities
- Law Enforcement agencies (e.g., animal care services)
- Community Resource and Outreach (including homeless services)
- Women and Children support organizations
- Domestic Violence Shelters and Resources
- Education and Literacy Groups
- Federal government agencies including Veterans Affairs (VA) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
- State and local community programs and offices
-
Organization must be located approximately 300 miles from us.
-
Provide a website including the organization’s mission (Facebook is not sufficient).
-
Have a profile on Guidestar https://www.guidestar.org
