Your donations make the life-saving work of HSSA possible

Arizona Gives Day 2023 is April 4th. A full 24 hours of fundraising that will massively impact the lives of shelter pets and give a second chance at a happy life to innocent pets in our community who have suffered.

Your donation for Arizona Gives Day this year not only helps homeless pets in medical crisis through our Second Chance Medical fund, but it also helps us fund increased demand for our services to low-income families, including our low-cost and free clinic services (spay/neuter, wellness, vaccinations, dog dental) and our monthly pet food distribution programs that helps keeps pets in their loving forever homes.

This year we have a hefty fundraising goal of $60,000! Your gift made today will help the 5,000+ pets that will need our help in the year to come. You make the important life-saving work of the Humane Society of Southern Arizona possible.

Can't wait until April 4th to give? Early giving is open now!

These are some of the special pets that will benefit when you give today.

Meet Hochi

Gentle as a lamb, Hochi is a sweet Siamese who came into our care in need of medical attention. Hochi was blind, and to prevent further infection, his eyes were removed. After a successful surgery, Hochi healed under the supervision of our medical team. Finally on the adoptions floor, his sweet and playful personality fully blossomed. It wasn’t long before Hochi found his forever home!

Meet Josephine

Josephine came into HSSA in quite the pinch! She was pregnant with full term puppies, but had nowhere to go. After all, the shelter environment isn’t appropriate for newborn puppies. Luckily, a foster parent stepped up to the plate and welcomed this expecting momma into her home. Soon, Josephine gave birth to six beautiful babies who, thanks to their foster, will have a chance at a happy life. It's no secret that fosters save lives every single day. We are in constant need of dedicated, knowledgeable, fosters like Josephine's to help care for the lives that can't be in the shelter environment. Your impact as a foster is immeasurable.

Meet Orchid

Our first impression of Orchid touched our hearts in a melancholic way. This sweet girl had a deep, open wound on her left abdomen as well as roughly cropped ears. As she healed, Orchid began to feel and act more like herself. She joined other pups for playgroups and enjoyed going for long walks with volunteers. Before long, Orchid’s lovely personality won over the heart of her now forever family.

Meet Scrappy

When Scrappy entered our care, she had a severe case of calicivirus. It caused her to suffer congestion and clouding in her eyes. Our medical team cared for her for several weeks. After treatment, her symptoms subsided, and Scrappy was able to move to the adoptions floor. It wasn’t long before this sweet kitten won the heart of her now forever family.

Meet Ruby

When we met Ruby, she was fighting a severe infection from a broken tooth. Due to the depth of canine teeth, the infection eventually pierced through her cheek creating a scar. With a treatment consisting of antibiotics and the surgical extraction of the problem tooth, Ruby was relieved of her painful symptoms. Serendipitously, the foster home that Ruby was recovering in fell in love with her. She was soon welcomed in as a permanent member of the family.

Meet Steffie

Unrecognizable from the dog she is today, Steffie was severely matted in feces and dirt upon her arrival at HSSA. Through several grooming sessions, our medical team was able to slowly reveal the gorgeous and gentle girl hiding under all the matted fur. It wasn’t long until Steffie’s sweet personality won the heart of an adopter.

Meet Nala

When a kind person found Nala, she was anxiously searching a dirty shed for her newborn puppies. However, another Good Samaritan had already brought the seemingly abandoned babies into the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. Before long, Nala was reunited with her litter. Her 8 beautiful babies are now safe growing up in their mother’s care.

Meet Mocha

Mocha’s jowl was nearly detached from her face when we first met her. Though it’s unclear what caused her injury, our medical team got to work right away to help her heal. She received stitches as well as dental surgery to remove a cracked tooth. Though she went through intense treatments, her playful personality quickly won over adopters at PAWSH in the Park Place Mall.

Meet the Kittens in a Box

When a box carrying several tiny, severely ill kittens came through our doors, our medical team wasted no time. They sprung into action by setting up heating pads and ensuring the kittens were properly hydrated. After weeks of close monitoring and ongoing care, the sweet kittens made their way to the adoptions floor where they would their well deserved happily ever afters.

Meet Steve

When a local caretaker became overwhelmed, HSSA answered the call to help. Through several visits to the home, we welcomed nearly 30 dogs in total into our care. Though they were well loved, the pups needed check ups and baths before they were ready to move to the adoptions floor. One timid terrier named Steve needed a little extra socialization before he was ready to find his forever home. Only a few weeks later, he was welcomed into his forever home.

Meet Larry

Larry had quite the journey during his time at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. After winning a battle with the deadly Parvo virus, Larry’s skin peeled to reveal a wound spanning the width of his back between his shoulder blades. He underwent three surgeries to remove unhealthy tissue from his wounds. Fully patched up and sporting fashionable sweaters to protect his scars, Larry finally made it to the adoptions floor where he awaits the next chapter in his life.
