Meet Dr. Kristin Barney

Kristin Barney’s journey in animal welfare began early in her life. Growing up with a service dog as part of her household, she understood the importance of the human-animal bond. Kristin has a diverse career background, including roles in behavioral and public health. Her passion led her to become a professional dog trainer and later, a prominent figure in animal welfare. Before joining HSSA, she served as the Senior Director of Lifesaving Programs at Best Friends Animal Society.

Kristin holds an EdD in organizational leadership from Pepperdine University and a master’s degree in administration from Northern Arizona University. She is also a frequent national speaker on animal welfare leadership.

A long-time Tucson resident, Kristin enjoys exploring the beautiful landscapes of Southern Arizona with her husband, three dogs, and three stroller-loving cats.
